Psychotherapy

You Deserve the BEST-IN-CLASS, Evidence-Based Care

Psychotherapy is sometimes called “talk therapy” because the time is spent talking with a trained professional. It is often used in combination with medication, but is also used alone to treat depression, anxiety and other disorders, or to help with life problems. It is different than talking to a friend because a Clinical Psychologist is trained to help you see patterns in your reactions that are causing difficulties and to work with you to develop better coping skills to handle these issues when they come up in the future. There are many different types of therapy, and which type is best depends on your goal. Because we specialize in treating depression and anxiety, our office focuses on therapies that have been shown to help with those problems. We use a large amount of cognitive-behavioral (CBT) and mindfulness approaches. The therapy is both practical and supportive. You and your clinical psychologist work together to understand and change the thoughts and behaviors patterns that are part of your depression, anxiety symptoms, or life stresses. How long will I have to be in therapy?

Each session lasts 45-60 minutes. You will plan the amount of time in advance with your Clinical Psychologist. Some people feel better after just a few sessions. Most people are in this type of therapy for 3-6 months with good results, but the treatment is personalized to you.

How do I start?

All visits to our office start with a complimentary phone screen to make sure you are a good fit for our offices. We usually have people start with an evaluation by one of our psychiatrists to make sure that any medical issues are identified and discuss psychotherapy as part of the assessment. Some people see both a psychiatrist and a psychotherapist, some people see only a psychiatrist or a psychotherapist/clinical psychologist and not both. We are committed to finding the best plan for you.
